Copy Editing

If your work is developed, but not ready for publication, start here. As your copy editor I will:

Assess your text to make sure it is clear and coherent.
Correct any errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style.
Ensure consistency in spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and other style elements per the style guide of your choice.
Query any facts that seem incorrect, any faulty organization, any gaps in logic, and any other inconsistencies.
Provide suggestions to improve readability and style.

Proofreading

Proofreading is a last check of your content before you publish. As your proofreader I will:

Correct any errors in grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Ensure consistency in spelling, capitalization, punctuation, hyphenation, abbreviations, and formatting.
Verify correct layout and design of word breaks, page numbers, headers, footers, margins, photos, graphs, illustrations and captions.

Developmental Editing

This is where you start if you need help developing your story. This is editing at the big-picture level. As your developmental editor I will:

Help you develop your thesis (non-fiction) or plot lines (fiction).
Help you form structure and scope.
Outline your work, also reordering paragraphs, chapters, or sections of text to ensure the narrative flows logically.
Deliver my feedback in a supportive manner. You have amazing ideas, my job is to bring your ideas out in the best possible way, not change them. Your readers want to hear your voice, not mine.

Style Sheet Creation

I produce a style sheet for every project I proofread or copyedit. My style sheets will:

Identify style discrepancies and smooth them out.
After reviewing your writing, provide a comprehensive breakdown of discrepancies found for your future reference.
